An extra use of the thong is for not having lines show up in your clothing.

My tights (for others who might see this, my day job is a Professional Wrestler) are tight in such a way that if I wear anything underneath them, they’ll show through, which looks horrendous in pictures, on TV screens, and let’s not even get into huge 20 feet and bigger tron screens at the arenas. The thong holds everything in place without having any weird “panty lines” show up.

Whether or not that still counts as appearance only is up to you.

My favorites are the tangas, they are the most comfortable and usually have no elastic in them, so nothing to show a pantie line. I used to wear nothing but g-strings, but recently (over the past few months) have started going commando. I really enjoy this one. I have to say the c-string so does not look comfortable, why bother? Just wear nothing!!
